Alert! S&P Indicator 4casts Big Drop

Down She GoesFor the first time in 7+ years the S&P 500 has closed below its 20-month exponential moving average. (Many market technical analysts look at the S&P 500 “20-month exponential moving average” trendline to guage long-term market movements.)

The last time this happened was Nov. 2000; this preceded an almost 50% S&P 500 20-Month Exponential Moving Avgdrop in the S&P 500. The S&P 500 index is a more reliable indicator of stock market performance than the oft-quoted DJIA. The DJIA is comprised of only 30 companies and is neither “Industrial” nor an “average”, using an arbitrary divisor rather than “30.” Kinda like the Federal Reserve which is, actually, neither federal nor a reserve.
